Repair Damaged Books
-
All book repair services include a book cleaning during which a page by page inspection of the book is preformed. Between the pages, between the text block and the spine, on the covers, and along the outside edges of the pages are all examined, cleaned, and any visible marks are removed (so long as doing so does not damage the book)
-
The pages that make up the interior of a book are known as a text block. Mass produced books often lack the additional structural components that ensure the book will hold up over time. Books that are well loved and read or flipped through regularly often loosen the spine over time. regardless of the reason the result is the same; a loose spine that results in a book ultimately falling apart. However with the right knowledge, tools, and skills a books spine can be repaired, stabilized, and made stronger than before to hold up to use and the passage of time.
-
As the binding becomes loose or aged individual pages often fall out, or even be accidentally torn out. When this happens the easiest solutions are to either stick it right back in where it fell out and simply wedge it in between the pages, hoping that it won't fall out later and become lost, or to try and tape it back in, often in a way that leaves noticeable extra bulk in-between pages or in a way that results in an individual page sticking out from the text block. When repairing books, re-incorporating individual pages can be done in a way that re-integrates them without making them stick out like a sore thumb or risk them getting lost and falling out again later.
-
Covers are usually the most easily damaged portions of a book. Even if it appears minimal on the surface damage to the cover can prove detrimental to the book over time. This can result in things like the text block coming loose from the cover, instability and crumbling spines, crumpled corners which leads to page damage, and more. Repairing these can extend the life of a book and help prevent future damage.

If you are unsure what type of repairs your book requires or feel there are other repair services required than what is listed above please feel free to fill out the inquiry form at the bottom of this page and include that information and we can discuss what the cost and process of fixing your books.
